Before I share the recipe for this cookies I want very fast to talk about a couple of things that are somehow related with this blog. First I finally got a DSLR camera for my food pictures. I am so excited because I got a great deal on ebay. A Canon EOS D60 6MP Digital Camera for only $156.00! It pays off to spend countless hours watching and hunting down deals on ebay, doesn’t it? Of course, the camera is not new and it didn’t come with a manual, lens or software, but that’s what the internet is for, right? I am a very happy cook and amateur photographer right now. I have spent a lot of time learning its functions and taking pictures of every item and cat in my house. LOL. I’ll always love film photography, but digital is so dang nice
In another topic, I have been a very bad blogger lately. Ever since I decided to try to make a living out of blogging it seems like the day doesn’t have enough hours to do everything I have planned. This is maybe because I am very disorganized and the days are so short! I have a lot of awards that I have received that need to be put up. I have been lazy in visiting my friend’s blogs and I haven’t kept up with the forum. So here I am announcing that the event I love baking has been closed. I didn’t have the time to promote it and it just fell in the pit of oblivion, besides I didn’t hear back from the sponsors, what a shame
Maybe it will come back sometime, when I get my life in order! Does anyone want to work as my assistance? I’ll pay you with food and cookies
Now to the recipe. A bunch of blogging friends (Jerry, Sandy, Courtney, Kelly, Claire, Andrea and Judy) are having a cookie xtravaganza event where they are baking cookies for 12 days. Yummy! I was invited to participate, but the email ended up in an account I never check so I didn’t get ready for this fun event. However, their creations made me hungry for cookies and decided to make this orange and chocolate kind. I didn’t follow any recipes. I just tried to remember from the top of my head what ingredients cookies usually have in them and came out with this recipe:
Orange and chocolate cookies
Makes 1 dozenFor this recipe you will need:
- 1/2 cup butter at room temperature
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp orange extract
- zest of one orange
- 1 egg
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet dark chocolate
Preparation:
- Cream butter and sugar until you get a smooth yellowish mix. Add orange extract, zest and egg. Beat a little longer.
- Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to the butter mixture.
- Add vanilla extract and beat until all the ingredients are well blended.
- Preheat oven to 400ºF.
- Form 1″ balls with the dough and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the bottoms start to turn golden brown.
- While the cookies cool down, melt chocolate by placing it in a bowl over boiling water. Cover cookies with chocolate and let it harden before eating.
Even though I liked this cookies, they are a little bit to dry. Maybe I will use more butter next time. That should work, right? Are you baking cookies for the holidays? Should I expect some in my mailbox? LOL
¡Buen provecho!

Hola querido
. I think that getting organized is the first step in this blogging world!!! But it also requires time and then you let other things undone… and there we are… I’m also struggling with schedules and free time and gym time… it’s hard!!! Anyways, your pictures are surely stunning Ben! I can see the difference ;D Great job!
Is it typical to bake cookies for Xmas in the States?

I love those cookies! Orange and chocolate was the first truffle flavor I’ve ever made, and it goes so well together in everything. (People say I use too much orange flavoring in things, though.)
Nice deal on the camera! What kind of camera were you using before?

First of all, great first shot of the cookies with chocolate dripping! While I’m not a baker, I am an eater (aren’t we all?) and I love the combination of orange and dark chocolate. I keep a candy bar in the fridge with those flavors and that’s my secret indulgence (breaking off a little square here and there).

Hah! When you look at your stats, I’m the one who’s been open to your site all day. I left a window open and just found it. Hopefully that will be some kind of good luck charm, no? Your cookies are LOVELY! And they sound so delicious. I love chocolate & orange! As far as blogging for business goes, good luck to you. I try to keep a balance of working and visiting, but somehow the visiting seems to always be shortchanged, but I continue to work on it. Otherwise, something quite enjoyable turns into work.

Boy oh Boy, Ben, do I know JUST how you feel! LOL!
I am sorry to hear about your event, but I know sometimes you have to let go of some of the things that you love because they just aren’t justifying the time spent. But you will get back on track soon, I am sure! Glad to see you are back!
Those cookies look great! Love the chocolate drizzle!

Came across your site for the first time. I like the combination of chocolate and orange (my favourite
). We have also just recently started blogging and wish to do it as a living. There are so many ideas and things that can be done, but the time just seems to pass by, as you say trying to do it all, we have been good and compared to normal are quite organised. However it just seems difficult to juggle all the balls in the air !
It is a matter of time, prioritising and keeping at it, which will get us there, we are really enjoying the experience.

These cookies look awesome. When I saw chocolate and orange cookies on Patsy’s blog the first thing I thought of was the chocolate orange my boys always wanted in their stocking at Christmas. I bet they would love these cookies!!

I wouldn’t even have the first clue about how to make a living off of blogging. Good luck with that!
The cookies look really cute. I’d like to try an orange and chocolate combination.
I’m in the market for a DSLR. You’ll have to let us know how you find yours.

[...] and Chocolate Cookies I made these orange-flavoured cookies this afternoon! However, the recipe I got from the Internet was too wet for cookie cutter. I added much more flour after that. [...]
