Important!!! The rules for this event have changed. Please read the new rules here. Thank you!
If you have been reading this space for awhile maybe you have noticed that I love to bake. Not only cakes, pastries and cookies (I really don’t make much of the latter), but all kinds of food. Breakfasts, dinners, lunches and just about any kind of food. My oven is my best friend. Just take a look at all my recipes that involve baking. Even now that we are in the middle of the summer (although surprisingly it hasn’t been too hot in Ohio) I love to have my oven working. The good thing about baking is that you prepare your food, put it in the oven and while it cooks you get time to put everything away and clean the mess and once the food is ready you can move to an air-conditioned room.

Anyway, all this rambling about baking is because I want to introduce to you a brand new food event that I have been thinking about for awhile now. At first I wanted to have a Food for Plastic Challenge with a baking theme, but I bake so much that I decided to create a bi-weekly event just for baking loving people. The rules are simple:
Important!!! The rules for this event have changed. Please read the new rules here. Thank you!
- I’ll accept any kind of dish (breakfast, dinner, lunch, side dish, bread, dessert, drink [?]) which preparation involves baking at any point.
- Create a post on your blog with the recipe, mention the event and that the round up will be posted bi-weekly and include a link to this post. So we can get more participants involve. You can use the logo in your posts.
- Send your entry to ilovebaking[at]whatscooking[dot]us with the following information:
- Your name.
- The name and URL of your blog.
- The title and permalink of your entry.
- The category of your creation: sweet or savory.
- The deadlines to receive your entries will be the 7th and 21st of every month at 10:00 EST starting August 7th, 2008. The roundup will be posted the following day.
- You can send up to 2 entries per period.
- 1 sweet and 1 savory entries will be picked every period (I haven’t decided if I want to have judges or a voting poll). And the 4 entries of the month will face the will of the people. (Meaning there will be voting)
- There will be a prize for the entry that gets the most votes in each category (sweet and savory)
Is your head spinning yet? Mine is! I love baking so much that I want to get more ideas for future recipes and that’s why I am starting this event. In the future there might be more surprises for this event, but for now I think that is a good start. So fire up your ovens and start baking!

Funny. I prefer using the oven than the stove top too. I dont care what the season.

I love this idea, Ben. It’s much more casual than some of the other challenges, and that works for me!

Oh fun – just give me a reason to bake. Trouble is I always gravitate to the sweet and I’m so looking forward to seeing savory bakes pop up.

I’d love to take part in the event. I see we are paired for Tried and tested. I am still browsing to see what interesting recipe I can try!!!

I like baking too, although I don’t do it enough as I’d like to. I’ve been thinking about baking all of the bread I eat, so I might try that soon.

Great idea Ben! I’d love to participate, but one question is bugging me: since my oven is pretty much broken I mostly do my baking in the microwave. Would my entries qualify?

Hi Ben…great idea! Pretty tension free too I might add…no rules to follow other than the oven. YAY!! Ciao for now

This sounds like a great idea. Looks like I’m a little too late for July. I’ll start thinking about August.
